Habiba Mohammed is a teacher and the Co-director and Team leader of Centre for Girls’ Education, Population and Reproductive Health Initiative, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Kaduna state, in Northern Nigeria. Population & Reproductive Health Initiative is a Civil Society organization helping to delay the age of marriage in rural communities by reducing social and economic barriers to female schooling and providing group-based mentoring and support. Habiba’s profound interest in working with the marginalized, has led her to work with adolescent girls for several years in safe spaces, in rural communities where she offers mentored and tutored support. She has served in many capacities in the organization rising from her position as a mentor to the team leader of the girls program. She oversees program activities and implementation, leading, managing and coordinating development of strategies and engaging key internal and external stakeholders. She takes a major role in the program’s curriculum development and coordinates activities in adolescent girls’ safe spaces, where girls are mentored on SRH, RMNCH, Life skills, Literacy & Numeracy, Financial Literacy, Vocational & Leadership trainings. She has facilitated and spoken in many conferences, seminars and workshops both in Nigeria and abroad, among which are the Girl Effect University workshop in 2014. She is an alumni of the US Department of States Teaching Excellence and Achievement Programme (TEA) and is currently an RMNCH Champion in the Champions for Change first cohort series in Nigeria. Habiba is a graduate of English(litt.), and has a professional Diploma in Education and a Higher Diploma in Guidance and Counseling, all obtained from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
