Shirin Ebadi

Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Shirin Ebadi, JD, was awarded the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote the rights of women, children and political prisoners in Iran. She is an internationally recognised advocate of human rights and is renowned for establishing organisations such as the Million Signatures Campaign to end discrimination against women in Iranian law. In 2004, Forbes Magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most powerful women. In 2006 she helped create the Nobel Women's Initiative to promote peace, justice and equality for women worldwide.
