Marina Novaes is a lawyer and historian, whose main interests are related to the protection of human rights at work.
She has been working since 2006 in the field of anti-human trafficking and slave labor beginning her experience in the NGO sector, by assisting victims of human trafficking. Afterwards, she coordinated a project to prevent human trafficking with adolescents in schools, and also acted as a lawyer for immigrants, specifically Bolivians, Peruvians and Paraguayans.
Currently, she works in the Municipality of São Paulo, as Special Adviser for the Promotion of Decent Work, at the Municipal Secretariat for Human Rights and Citizenship, where she is responsible to articulate and promote actions against slave labor and human trafficking. She also coordinates the first Municipal Commission for the Eradication of Slave Labor in Brazil which was responsible for the elaboration of the Municipal Plan for the Eradication of Slave Labor that aims to promote, assist and restrain slave labor.
She is author of many articles and books about fundamental rights at work, human trafficking, forced labor, and labor standards in supply chains.
