Labour broker disclosure
Verite and Thomson Reuters have signed an MOU to work together to increase transparency on the information available on labour brokers suspected to be involved in human trafficking and bonded labour.

Legal Strategies to Combat Trafficking in India
The Freedom Fund and the Thomson Reuters Foundation launched a report on the Legal Strategies to Combat Trafficking in India. In 2015 they will seek funding and more partners to address the main recommendations in the report.

Corruption and sex – sextortion
The International Association of Women Judges released a report on the abuse of power to obtain a sexual benefit or advantage. From government officials granting permits in exchange for sexual favors, to teachers trading good grades for sex with, sextortion is a global phenomenon. The report illustrates how sextortion manifests; examines the laws available for prosecuting it; and describes the often-inadequate response of the criminal justice systems.

US financial working group fights human trafficking with data
The Office of the Manhattan District Attorney set up a working group to use financial data to dismantle human trafficking networks. Leading US financial institutions have incorporated alerts into their software to detect patterns of human trafficking in their client’s data, and are sharing the findings with law enforcement agencies. The group also issued international guidance to help other corporations identify and report irregularities in financial transactions linked to human trafficking.

$50 million to help fight slavery
Randy Newcomb, CEO, Humanity United announced that eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam will donate an extra $50 million to help fight slavery worldwide. "One of the greatest challenges of this era is the abolition of slavery globally in all of its forms," Newcomb told the conference.

AEquitas, a US-based organisation offering prosecutors technical assistance in cases on violence against women, is working with Westlaw, the leading online legal research service, to build a tool integrating data, research, media coverage and laws relevant to sexual violence prosecution..

Workers rights in tea gardens in Assam
Nazdeek addressed the terrible working conditions of workers in tea gardens in Assam. They called on certification companies to engage workers on the determination of certification benchmarks and for greater transparency in the supply chain. After months of campaigning, their message reached the ears of the Government, the tea industry and the Unions: the daily wage of Rs 94 is illegal.

New legislation protects two million domestic workers
The Visayan Forum in the Philippines worked with law firms White & Case and Grasty Quintana Majlis & Cia to produce research on legislation related to the protection of domestic workers. Visayan Forum used the research to negotiate for landmark legislation in the Philippines which was passed in February 2013 providing protection and welfare to two million domestic workers in the Philippines.
